Dec 6th 2011
Wow…that was unlike anything any of us have experienced in our lives!!
The outpouring of support and emotion from skaters and fans across Canada was unbelievable. Many of us have only just now had a chance to read and reflect on your messages of support and pride. Coast to coast you cheered us on, quietly yelling at work, screaming in your front room, or gathered in larger groups cheering for Team Canada. Your spirit and energy pushed us to perform on the world stage and prove where the other best players in the world play!!
You backed this team financially and lifted us up emotionally…it was commented on many times at the venue how incredible, hospitable and appreciative all the Canadian fans were. We know first-hand that Canada has the best Roller Derby fans in the world.
Thank you is not enough to express our gratitude. This was a long incredible journey that didn’t end on Sunday, in fact a whole new era of Roller Derby has just been presented to the planet and we are proud to have played a part in it, as all of you should be too.
Team Canada will continue, this event will continue and we hope your support, love and enthusiasm will continue as strong as ours does for every person who cheered us on.

	XOXOXOX
Team Canada

Like the last few jams of a tough game we need everyone to get out of their seats and get on their feet. The first ever World Cup of Roller Derby is just over a month away and Team Canada needs every skater, fan, coach, NSO, ref and volunteer in Canada. In order to cover just the basic travel costs for the world cup itself we will need to raise almost $15,000. If we want to practice as a team prior to the World Cup that number is closer to $20,000. Imagine putting a team together for a tournament and not having the ability to practice? Canada has the toughest travel logistics of any team competing in the World Cup. Our skaters cover 6 time zones, almost every available surface has ice on it this time of year and there are two national airlines. We now need your financial support more than ever…”Get up on your feet and help us compete! ”
I am asking every skater in Canada to give 5, 10 or 20 dollars, that every team in Canada donate 50 or 100 dollars, and every league in Canada donate 100, 200 or 500 dollars. That’s what we need in order to get our country’s team together to practice prior to the World Cup. If every skater, ref, coach, nso, photographer, announcer, fresh meat and fan donated even just $5.00 each our fundraising would be achieved.
We have had some sponsors and leagues skate up to the line for us but we are still short of our goal…we need what makes this sport unique, we need the community of derby to skate up to the line.

Some players on the roller derby track are large, brawny and look like they’re in the business of bruising.

Lucy Croysdill, derby alias Luludemon, is not any of those things.

The slim, five-foot-four Croysdill, sporting red-hued pigtails and bangs, is a feisty-yet-friendly East Sider who is, for the most part, in the business of running her own clothing line.

She’s also a roller derby team captain who doubles as Vancouver’s first roller girl to make Canada’s inaugural national roller derby team. Croysdill will represent Canada at the December debut of the Roller Derby World Cup in Toronto.

First thing I want to remind you all about is how critically important fundraising is for an event such as this. I know blah blah blah money, money , money……but it will cost Team Canada more than it will cost Team USA to get everyone to Toronto for the World Cup. We have less airline options, less corporate opportunities which means we need more help from everyone that plays, supports, volunteers and loves roller derby. Not only is it the fastest growing women’s sport in the world today it’s also the best!
Our first run of t-shirts will available soon with more to come, I am dropping merch off this week in Toronto and Edmonton and we are about to launch it on-line. Every penny of proceeds will go to help cover travel costs for the 20 skaters and coaches attending. So right now we need the help of all fresh meat, rookie, multi year veteran, NSO, Ref, photographer, support staff, volunteers and of course the fans. This sport has become so big in Canada that if everyone I just mentioned, from every league, donated $10 or $20, all of the funding required for Team Canada would be covered!!
So donate on-line, have a donation bucket at your next bout, run a 50/50 draw at your next bout, ask your league to make a donation or host fundraiser or buy some merch on-line (coming very soon).
This World Cup is setting the ground work for the future of this sport, there are fresh meat out there right now, wobbling around like baby giraffes on their skates that will be pulling the maple leaf jersey on for their country in years to come…..
